| McAfee, Inc. Offers First Virtual Trial of Security Appliance
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE) today announced a virtual machine trial of the McAfee Secure Internet Gateway appliance. The free 30-day software trial is designed to help mid-sized businesses evaluate McAfee Secure Internet Gateway, an integrated Web and e-mail security appliance that helps businesses defend their networks from spam, viruses, spyware and malicious Web sites. "For the first time, customers can try a spam-filtering appliance through the download of a virtual software file, to see how it performs relative to their current anti-spam solution," said Jack Marsal, director of product marketing for McAfee. "We're giving customers the opportunity to experience the benefits of McAfee Secure Internet Gateway on their own server, before making an investment in an appliance." The VMware trial has the same features and effectiveness of the physical Secure Internet Gateway appliance.
Tough choices ahead on Iraq
The candidates need to come to terms with the realities in Iraq, lay out their conditions for leaving and explain how the United States will work from there to counter Islamist extremism. Democrats Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards are promising to withdraw the troops, but their positions have moderated recently and should come with an asterisk. The contours of their withdrawal plans are not entirely clear. Both Clinton and Obama say they would keep a "quick-reaction" force in the region but refuse to say if all U.S. forces would be out of Iraq by the end of their first term as president. Clinton would keep special forces in Iraq to hunt down al-Qaida, and she would consider leaving forces in the north to protect Iraq's Kurdish minority. Obama would leave a "residual" force to train the Iraqi military and battle al-Qaida.
Economy will be just fine
Experts and analysts spent the day ranting and raving about our economy. We really have to calm down just a little. We certainly understand economic issues can have a drastic impact on individual citizens. And, we understand Wall Street trickles down to Main Street or in our case, Gault Avenue. What we also understand is the market sometimes can be driven by words and it has proven over the course of history to be cyclical. We have full confidence the trend will hold true and things will rebound and be bolder and better than ever. For proof, we only have to look at a report issued Monday by economists and experts concerning Alabamas economy. In a nutshell, that report said we are doing better than many states. It also said we should expect modest economic growth this year, just a tick lower than last year but still above the rest of the nation.Growing at a slightly slower rate than last year is nothing to be overly concerned about in Alabama, despite what we might read or hear on television.
